Dr. John Schellenberg Weight Loss Story
I’ll never forget the words my friend’s father said to me when I was 12 years old. I had spent the summer working in Saskatchewan on my uncles’ farm and when I got back home for school in the fall, my friend’s dad said to me, “Looks like you put on a lot of weight this summer!” rom that point on, there always seemed to be a struggle for me and there was often things said in the family about putting on weight, becoming “portly” or that I was getting “jowly” which meant my face was getting fatter and wider. I struggled most of my adolescent and adult life going up and down up 20-30 pounds consistently year after year. When I turned 40, the weight stopped coming off and just kept staying! It didn’t’ matter if I ate cheeseburgers or salads or if I exercised like crazy or not. It just wouldn’t come off. That’s when I finally said, “I guess I’ll just be a fat guy for the rest of my life.” I knew I was eating poorly and making unhealthy choices but I didn’t know what to do. Then one day I saw a picture of myself on stage receiving an award and I didn’t recognize myself. I was like, “Who is that?!” I knew I had to make a change, but still didn’t have the answers and so I continued to do what I was doing. Then one day I bought a scale that analyzed body composition, calculated visceral fat and body mass index. I took off my shoes and socks and stepped on board. My eyes popped out of my head. I was obese! And, a ticking time bomb for major health problems. I never thought of myself as obese before. That shocked me. I decided right then and there with no shoes and no socks on, I was done being fat! That was the start of the program I now use to help hundreds of people lose thousands of pounds here in my town and across the country.
